FTP is essential for maintaining your site, but most operating systems don't come bundled with a clear, easy-to-use program to do the job. Thankfully, there are plenty of free FTP clients out there for any operating system.

Filezilla is a free, open-source FTP client available for Windows, OS X, and Linux operating systems. Documentation for it may be found here.
WinSCP is a free FTP client available for Windows. Documentation may be found here.
FireFTP is an FTP add-on for Mozilla Firefox, which allows you to integrate FTP into your web browser. This is available for any computer running Firefox.
SmartFTP is an FTP client for Windows with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions available. The full version must be purchased, but there is a free version available, as well.
